how awesome was that inauguration? SO AWESOME. Aretha Franklin! Itzhak Perlman! YO-YO MA! *ded of joy* um, i may have cracked up kind of a lot at the end of Lowry's speech though. "brown can stick around?" "red man can get ahead man?" i get the civil rights thing, but... man. *g*

also, i think they could have chosen a better poet, but maybe that's just me. *shrugs*

&hearts &hearts &hearts!

ETA for the inauguration speech!

Heh. I loved it. Yellow will be mellow, white will do what's right... forget the fancy abstractions about democracy, this was funny. M.

It was the one funny, human bit--apart from the moment when it became clear that even though the entire US military had orchestrated this event down to the second, neither Obama nor Roberts had actually practiced the all-important oath. Hee! M.

ahaha, yes! we were all giggling over that one. my coworker was like, "i bet he's thinking OH MY GOD, first five seconds and i've already fucked up!" *g* i do think his speech eclipsed that little blunder though.

SO AWESOME. *happy sigh*

I think the poet suffered from having to go right after Obama's amazing speech. I cringed on her behalf. It wasn't a bad poem, but her delivery was a little stiff...

ha, that's true- i hadn't thought about the timing of it. i actually didn't particularly care for the poem, though it might have been because of the delivery; several lines sounded bland/awkward to me. it wasn't terrible, just... not particularly moving in terms of word choice and phrasing. (i also happen to like having text in front of me so i can see if and how the structure works for me; perhaps i'll give her a second chance and look it up.)
