PREFACE: THIS IS NOT MY FANDOM, OKAY? IDEK, GUYS. You are all ENABLERS and I am, apparently, Far Too Easily Persuaded. :P

Mission BINA Today Show Taping: success! Or, well, relative success. *g*

This morning I magically rolled on out of bed at 5am, before my roommate was even awake (this is a Big Deal, okay? He usually leaves for work before I wake up!), to head down to Rockefeller Plaza. (Yes, by myself. My RL friends are not American Idol fans.) Let me just say, arriving at a free taping at 6:06am is late, late, late in Fangirl Standard Time; the entry line was already around the corner by the time I got there.

Rockefeller Plaza (at the end of the line):

Sign-waving (already! ~6:20 in the morning!):

Grannies For Adam! This cracked my shit up.

The crowding was actually not terribly bad when i arrived, but the situation deteriorated rapidly after ~6:30am. Side note: urgh, tweens. D: Also, I'll take the opportunity here to apologize for my shit-tastic camera zoom; my camera is only awesome within limited ranges of distance/lighting.

Sound check (~7am): Kris! Who is the one not in the cap, in case you can't identify him thanks to my not-fabulous picture quality; too much crowding and imperfect aim only gets you this far, apparently.

Flyby NBC camera:

Random kind-of-an-eyesore Adam sign:

A better shot of Kris:

Frustrated with my camera, I attempted to zoom in on someone else's:

First mostly-successful picture of Adam! With Kris:

More Kris:

Adam:

I was standing somewhere in the middle of the plaza during the sound check, but being surrounded by flailing people, too-much-taller people, pushy shorter people, people with kids sitting on top of their shoulders, and GIANT SIGNS EVERYWHERE made picture-taking really fucking difficult. (Overheard en masse upon Adam's arrival at sound check: "ADAM, TAKE IT OFF!" Oh, fangirls. Never stop embarrassing yourselves in public. *g*) Anyway, Kris sang Heartless and No Boundaries, and Adam sang Mad World. Both of them sounded amazing, and they were also extremely adorable together. Slashy moments that I really regret not having pictorial evidence for: multiple Adam & Kris glompfests man-hugs, a couple of onstage private banter conversations wherein they grinned at each other like loons.

There was some Kris-and-Adam herding in and out of the NBC building, which I ignored for the most part, the signing/interview segment shenanigans being out of my range of sight. I know that Adam made a few comments, but I was too busy fending off the screaming tweens to actually pay attention to what he was saying. Sorry!

Best sign of the day! This was held up by an apparent (giggly, Jewish) fanboy. Also, it was possibly my best picture of Adam for the day.

I was able to move up closer to the front as it got closer to 8am. I think people were starting to trickle away for work at that point, or maybe some of the people in the front with fan passes (I saw people wearing badges of some sort when I arrived) got to go inside the NBC building? No idea.

Also, this was around the time I encountered a bunch of Harvard girls (and their giant pink Veritas sign) and overheard snippets of a conversation ABOUT READING AI FANFICTION. OH YES. xD I did not, alas, manage to discern whether or not they were discussing porn in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza, but still- never let it be said that Ivy-Leaguers do not geek it up with the best of us! \o/

Approaching 8am: the paparazzi fanmob, not that the mob was my objective here. (My blind aim is terrible, okay?)

More mob, with bonus, er, stage crew.

Adam & Kris! (Kris is being blocked by that old guy in this picture.)

Pretty sure Kris was next to him here, too, not that you can tell from all the hands in the way:

Adam. (I took a few extra for you, Bina!)

Adam/fan interaction, blurry & not quite in frame- I got distracted by the glimpse of goofy happy Adam-grin in between all the waving hands, haha.

Kris.

Sometime before 8:30, Adam & Kris were shepherded back into the NBC building, at which point I decided it was time to leave for work. They may have come back out again afterward, I don't know; I just couldn't afford to hang around and find out. *g*

View of the stage and its shiny piano, taken while leaving the plaza. (It would have been so much easier to take pictures from here, except that they'd never have faced the side!)

I was just about to put my camera away when I walked around the corner and saw... Adam & Kris, in the studio being taped! *g* Whatever strategically-placed plastic sheet thing they had going on inside the window did not deter me from attempting just two more pictures:

Annnnd that's a wrap! (Except for the FOOTNOTES OF GEEKERY, obvs.)

Adam vs. Kris fangirling from a non-AI-fan perspective:
- Screamage: Approximately 50/50, volume-wise (no way for me to tell numbers-wise).
- Signage: hard to say as I couldn't see all of the signs; if not 50/50, then maybe 60/40?
- Paparazzi: Horrible picture-taking times all around. Worse when Adam was out than when Kris was, at least where I was standing.

Overall attendance observations:
- Guy to girl ratio: 45/55 (40/60 tops), from what I could see.
- VERY LARGE AGE SPECTRUM- grandparents to teeny kids. I'm not even gonna try to break this one down.
- Definitely a lot of out-of-town presence, although there were plenty of native New Yorkers. Harvard girls aside, there was one particularly memorable group wearing nuclear-phlegm-green Indiana tshirts. (Effective for head-count purposes, but talk about an eyesore.)
