OMG YOU GUYS. According to

musesfool, only one person who signed up for Remix (as of a few hours ago, anyway) qualifies for A:TLA, which strikes me as a) astonishing and b) SADFACE! I was just going through my stuff to see if I qualify and it appears that I have in fact written enough commentfic to pass, but hey- I could always go another round for A:TLA! &hearts Plus, I still have this one way-overdue story on the backburner, so it'll be nice to kick my brain into writing-mode again.

Therefore: toss in your prompts! Come drabble with me! We have until Saturday before Remix signups close, and it is entirely possible to write enough to qualify if you're properly bunnied. ;D All it takes is seven 100+ word ficbits (or five 500+ word ficlets), and that's if you've never written anything in the fandom before! *tempts*

The turtle-ducks were cute, Mai guessed. They weren’t pets, but they weren’t wild animals, either. They liked humans, at least as far as bread crumbs were concerned, but they clearly weren’t the cuddling type.

She still wasn’t quite sure how much Zuko really remembered of his mother. He held those memories too close, like precious treasures that could be hurt if someone handled them too roughly. (Azula’s face flitted across her memory at that; how many harsh words had Zuko heard over the years? How much misplaced anger had he faced?) Still, he’d told her he’d loved feeding the turtle-ducks with Ursa. She could do that. She could do that with their children, someday, even if they never knew their grandmother.

The mother duck nearest her put up her head and quacked, demandingly. “Fine, fine,” she said, and sprinkled more crumbs on the water. “Just look after those ducklings, okay?”

Aw. I love this! :D And this is beautiful and painful:

Katara, Toph, stewed sea prunes.

Stews are for southerners, Toph says, with a little huff of amusement. The north is cold, with mountains an’ all. You want to be warmed up, throw chilli and vinegar on everything. We don’t have the time for stewing.

Katara forbears to mention how cold the poles are (because, tmd, they are cold!). Instead she shuffles to one side, making space for Toph to kneel down at the small wooden table, and pats the ground. Come on, she chuckles, don’t say you don’t dare.

Grunting in reply, Toph sits down cross-legged and nudges the stew cautiously with soup-spoon and chopsticks.

I love how Toph is all: "Pfft. Whatever" but doesn't seem to really put up much of a fight. And how Katara knows it.

I love that Katara knows the way to get Toph to try something is to dare her into it. Hee. ♥ ♥

Ty Lee, tightrope

"Aiya! What are you doing up there?" Shangxiang shades her eyes against the sun as she looks up at the strange girl walking across the clothesline. It's low enough that she will probably be fine if she falls, but that does not stop Shangxiang's heart from leaping to her throat when the girl hops over a drying robe and flips off the line, does a little roll and lands neatly at her feet.

Shangxiang moves before the girl takes another breath, her fingers swift and sure. She blocks the girl's acupuncture points to her limbs and has one hand on her sword as the girl crumples to the ground.

"Ugh," she says, confused and wide-eyed. "What did you do?"

"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Shangxiang counters.

"Practicing for the circus!" says the girl, as if it should be obvious. "My name's Ty Lee. What's yours?"

Shangxiang introduces herself and studies Ty Lee's reaction. She can't be from around here if she doesn't recognize Shangxiang's name.

"Are you lost?" Shangxiang asks. Her clothes look finely made, if somewhat dirty, but that could be because she's been tumbling in the dirt like one of the horses after a bath. "Where are your parents?"

At that Ty Lee looks a little abashed. "I ran away from home. Don't send me back."

Considering Shangxiang has no idea where Ty Lee is from, that's easy enough to promise. "You can be one of my handmaidens," she decides, and unblocks Ty Lee's chi. Her small band of warrior women has been increasing in number, much to her brother's dismay. Ty Lee will be both safe with and watched by her handmaidens, until Shangxiang can be sure of her loyalty. Someone with her ability to walk across ropes might prove to be useful.

"Cool," says Ty Lee, as she sits up slowly and shakes out her arms. "You remind me of Azu-- someone I knew."

Shangxiang catches Ty Lee's near slip, but the name doesn't sound familiar, so she determines that they can't be at war with them. "You'll have to tell me about her sometime," she offers.

Ty Lee nods and accepts Shangxiang's assistance in standing. "Can you teach me how to fight like you?"

Awesome.
