Your linking of that post made me thoughtful, since I'd previously assumed that people had come across that problem in Harry Potter fandom before! But now I am realizing that perhaps not, so I have just dropped a link to my post on metafandom. If it isn't widely known, I'm feeling that it's time for fandom to have a wider discussion about this thing.

Thanks for posting! The Blaise/race thing has definitely come up before; I just haven't been active in HP fandom for a long time & wasn't aware of the extent of whitewashing, so I figured it was worth boosting.

Yeah, I figured the race thing had come up before too, but as you said, it's the surprise that the whitewashing is still going on.

I have totally found some cool stuff by hopping back into HP fandom after six years, but this was totally something I was not pleased to find again.

I thought this thing had been buried in 2005, but since most of the fics associated with those banners have 2008-2011 update/posted dates, I guess not. :(
