Saving Face!

Okay, anybody who knows me probably knows that my love for this movie is completely and totally epic... so most of you won't be surprised to hear that wayyyy back in October, I claimed Saving Face for [livejournal.com profile] choc_fic's 100 Days of Color. Hence, a pimp post! :D

This is Wil (Wilhelmina, but nobody calls her that) Pang, surgeon.

A dutiful Chinese daughter, she makes the pilgrimage to her grandparents' house in Flushing every weekend. Prone to awkwardness and not the best people person, she finds navigating social interactions outside of the hospital a little overwhelming. Things she doesn't particularly enjoy include large social gatherings, which involve her being harassed into "dressing up" (or as "up" as she can be persuaded to dress) and getting her hair done.

Also, she's a lesbian.

This is Hwei-Lan, or Ma, Wil's mother.

Kicked out of Flushing by Wil's grandfather because she's pregnant and unmarried, she comes to stay with Wil. Her idiosyncrasies often drive Wil crazy, including her comments about Wil's neighbor Jay.

Since Ma doesn't speak English, this isn't exactly a problem for Jay. (However, it does get her into trouble at the video rental.)

This is Vivian, professional ballet dancer.

Confident and self-possessed, she knows exactly what she wants and where she wants to go. Vivian's dad is Wil's boss, which leads to a chance meeting at the hospital... and later, a not-so-chance meeting at the hospital vending machine.

Their relationship progresses in utterly adorable/hilarious stages:

In case you haven't been convinced by the above, there is also fic from Yuletide this year! Three of these stories were written for me, and the last one I wrote as a treat. The first story is the one I'd recommend as a taster, though. &hearts ;)

- Yum Cha
- The Last Gasp of Chivalry
- Spice of Life
- eating together
