i knew you were trouble when you walked in

"Kyouuuuuuuuya! Haaaaaaruhi!" Tamaki wails dramatically from the kitchen.

Haruhi covers her ears a second too late. Kyouya pets her absently, not bothering to look away from the newspaper they're reading side by side. "Yes?" he says.

Tamaki bursts into the living room and collapses before the sofa. "It's a TRAGEDY! We're... we're... we're out of commoner's coffee!"

"Instant coffee," Haruhi says flatly.

"Your father sent us an espresso machine just last week, Tamaki." Kyouya doesn't raise his voice or change his facial expression, but Tamaki shudders anyway. "Honey-senpai gave us a box of tea the week before."

"But-"

"No. It's not on sale at the supermarket," says Haruhi. "There's no point in being wasteful."

Kyouya glances down at her, amused. Despite years of the host club's lavish affections, Haruhi remains steadfastly unspoiled when it comes to everyday matters. It's part of her natural charm.

"We could go to another supermarket?" tries Tamaki. Kyouya stares at him until he wilts.

Haruhi sighs and takes the newspaper from Kyouya's hands, folding it neatly to mark their spot. "It's Sunday morning, Tamaki," she says. "Do you really want to spend it at the supermarket when Kyouya has a conference coming up this week?"

"What- oh." Tamaki wilts even further. "Kyouya-" he starts.

Kyouya rolls his eyes, but he's never been able to resist that tone. "Just shut up and come here, idiot."

Predictably, Tamaki tries to apologize again, but Haruhi stops his mouth with a kiss. Kyouya wraps his arms around them both, arranges things so all three of them can fit on the sofa, and lets Tamaki remind them both of the reasons why cohabitation is worth every bit of trouble.
