So C and I have been playing somewhat obsessively with duolingo! (I am learning Portuguese and brushing up on French, except I've done more Portuguese than French thanks to new-language excitement.) Our conclusion: duolingo is awesome, but a freaking trip.

me: are these secondary definitions if you scroll over a word and there's 2
because i moused over banana and under it said "banana, wimp"

    me: these options omg
    "the water boils"
    "the woman boils"
    AHAHAHAHAHA

    C: "do not want, please"
    HAHAHA

C: Entschuldigung, wo ist die Toilette?
    Nein, ich bin nicht krank.

    C: Do you rain dogs?
    me: lolol
    and cats
    C: nope just dogs

me: wtf "the spider eats bread"
no, no spiders do not eat bread
    they eat INSECTS
how about some biologically plausible sentences, how about that
    >.<

me: also why are you so concerned with making me learn the word for shark
    idgi
    REQUIN!
    REQUIN REQUIN REQUIN
    sigh
    also "je suis un dauphin"
    C: i am the dauphin
    hhaa
me: which is more plausible: i am a prince? or i am a dolphin
    SIGH
    C: LOL

    C: Do you like jewelry!
    not a question, a demand
    me: xDDDDDDD
    what is it in german
    C: magst du Schmuck!
    LIKE IT
    DAMMIT

C: Jedes Ei sehen wir. - we see every egg
    ??

    C: Tu dois un poulet.
    what the fuck
    you owe a chicken?
me: YOU OWE ME A CHICKEN
    sounds kind of like
    BRING US A SHRUBBERY
    >.>
    C: the comments
Chicken debt must be common in France.
not only do you owe a chicken, they owe a chicken too
    everyone owes a chicken
me: who comes up with this shit
    chickens
    belts
    pineapples
C: Ils nous doivent un poulet.
at least that makes slight bit more sense
    they owe us one
    me: one... chicken
    lol
oh so apparently whoever designed the clothes section for portuguese was slightly obsessed with
    socks
    and belts
    and skirts
    it was like O CINTO!
... why are you screaming about a belt
    C: mine said
    Schuhe!!
    (shoes!!)
    -.-

C: "you owe a chicken" has now featured four times
    they're getting antsy
Je dois, tu dois, ils doivent, ... Everybody owes chickens!
    oh shit! i owe one
Why is this sentence used (as opposed to something you might use on an everyday basis)? Did you forget to pay the chicken rent? Borrow too much money from the chicken and can't pay it back? halp.
    me: LOL
    C: I suspect fowl play.

*My favorite so far: "Mark all correct translations: She is a good woman." -- option 3: "She is a good pineapple."
